First time in Lisbon? Don’t sweat it. We’ve got your stomach covered from breakfast to dinner.

Visiting Lisbon for the first time and need restaurant recommendations? That's a question we get asked a lot. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

In this guide, we'll share some top recommendations for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner, so you can enjoy a perfect day of eating in the city.

Breakfast: Begin your day in style with Lisbon's most iconic pastry, Pastel de Nata. 🌅

Pastel de nata is a rich and creamy custard tart is heaven in a bite, and the Pastéis de Belém bakery is where it all started, dated back to 1837! You can find pastel de nata in every local pastry shop and even a vegan version in Vegan Nata Chiado.

For those looking for something heartier, Lisbon has many great, delicious, trendy brunch spots. Check out our favorite brunch picks in town to start your morning right!

Lunch: Seafood is a must. 🦞

If seafood is your thing, Ramiro is the spot! It is one of the city’s most famous seafood restaurants. It’s casual, lively, and offers a variety of fresh seafood options like garlic shrimp, clams, and the famous Prego (a steak sandwich typically eaten at the end of a seafood meal).

For those in exploration mode, head to Time Out Market at Mercado da Ribeira. This vibrant food market near the river features stalls from some of Lisbon’s best restaurants and offers a chance to try various traditional Portuguese dishes!

Afternoon Snack: Coffee and a Sweet Treat ☕️

Time for a break! Head to Chiado and stop at the historic Café A Brasileira, one of the oldest cafés in Lisbon. Enjoy a bica (espresso) and perhaps a traditional Portuguese pastry and a ginginha, a cherry liquor served in an edible chocolate cup.

Dinner: Fado and Dinner🍷🎶

For dinner, nothing beats the combo of food and music. Try Clube de Fado in Alfama for a meal with live Fado music (yes, it’s as atmospheric as it sounds). Or for a low-key evening, head to Bairro Alto for outdoor dining and lively vibes, then hit a small Fado bar like Tasca do Chico for an affordable night of live Fado music and eat some petiscos (Portuguese small plates).

Fancy a more luxurious night? treat yourself at Belcanto or Alma, Lisbon’s Michelin-starred gems with menus inspired by Portuguese culinary wonders.
